The school of Arts and Design of Vilanova i la Geltrú will offer the superior grade formative course in Illustration, Video Game Design and Virtual Environments from 2009. After having the approval of the Education department of Generalitat de Catalunya, this school will be the only public school in Spain which offers these studies.
These new studies culminate a long and intense work of the Education, Local development and Neápolis departments, and they also set off a global project which aims to create new socioeconomic prospects for the city. This course centralizes and catalyses the first stage of public strategies that the local council of Vilanova i la Geltrú wants to put into practice within the new socioecomic model for the city, such as new medias: video games, digital film, television via Internet or mobile television (tvip), amog others.
Vilanova’s consistory backed this new course after considering the educational, social and work needs of the region and getting in touch with several companies and Catalan universities. The participation and advice from DIGITALENT Foundation have been very important for the development of this project.
With this new course, human resources will adapt to the socioeconomic situation in Vilanova i la Geltrú, so this will help creating and developing electronic culture and entertainment and leading technological process, as cluster media promotes from the local council.
This new course will last 1.950 hours, distributed in two years, and will issue the studies of advanced technician in Illustration: Video Game Design and Virtual Environments. Therefore, EMAID will train professionals in video game design and interactive applications who will be able to fulfill the needs of this sector, which generates a great amount of financial resources and will open up new horizons for many young people in labour market.
The students who finish these new studies will have many career opportunities, from video game design as a freelance or an employee in company related to this sector, to TV and film production, advertising, graphic design, interactive and multimedia applications or animation and virtual environments, among others.
